Kevin Correia, recently added to the Dodgers’ pitching staff
to compensate for a spate of injuries, gave up three homeruns and seven runs
total in three innings of work yesterday as New York pummeled Los Angeles 11-3 to
avoid a three-game sweep in Los Angeles.
Carlos Frias came into relieve Correia in the fourth but he
didn’t fare much better, surrendering three runs on five hits as the Mets built
a 7-1 lead after three frames.
For the Dodgers, the few bright spots came at the plate
where Adrian Gonzalez went three-for-three and Andre Ethier and Dee Gordon each
notched a pair of hits.
Thankfully for Los Angeles, the Giants dropped a 14-6
laugher to the Nats to preserve the Dodgers 4.5 game lead in the National
League West.
The Dodgers send Roberto Hernandez, another recent pitching
addition, to the mound tonight in the opening game of a two-game set at
Arizona.
Bartolo Colon got the win for the Mets, giving up two runs
on five hits through six innings.
